The Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino denounces the warrantless detainment of filmmaker Jade Francis Castro by the Philippine National Police. While on vacation in Mulanay, Quezon, Jade and his friends were seized and charged with jeepney arson in Catanauan, another Quezon town, on February 2, 2024.
We stand by Jade Castro’s staunch declaration of his innocence and call for his immediate release from prison. We call upon the authorities of justice to be accountable for the systemic persecution of innocent civilians. We demand the cessation of baseless allegations of crime and subversion against our artists and academics. We deplore any form of false information that misleads the Filipino people.
Let justice prevail upon this land. Let the truth set the artists free.
